Hey, folks! “DRIVE ‘ER TILL SHE DROPS” headed
your way!
The miles have flown by and it seems we bought our 1999 Chevy suburban
yesterday.
We purchased it brand new at Tom Bannon Chevrolet in Nashville, March 2000 with
only a few test-drive miles on it. It was a vehicle somebody custom ordered and
backed out on so it did not get sold in 99. The joke is on them because it has
been the most trust worthy workhorse on the road. We now have 499,317 miles on
it and we are about to head to Michigan on tour where we predict it will roll
over to 500,000 around Lansing, MI. it is 550 miles from our driveway to
Lansing.
This is the very town that gave birth to Chevy Suburban before the plant there
closed and manufacturing moved to Wisconsin and Texas.
This was its first tour out in March 2000 as Stacey Earle and The Jewels

The “burb” as we call it has crossed the Rocky and Appalachian Mountains over
and over again, thru snow storms, ice Storms, 120 degree deserts, and, yes, city
traffic while never ever letting us down.
The engine is the original engine that has never ever been worked on other then
new spark plugs at 320,000 miles. The transmission was rebuilt at 359,000 miles,
AC compressor at 420,000. We can’t complain about that being we have had no car
payment for many years and not one single oil drip.
It is amazing what an oil change every 3000 miles will get ya!
We have managed to arrive at every show, touring 240-280 days a year. And, we
are truly grateful. One of the greatest fears of an artist is a car that won’t
start on show day.
We are sure, someday, with all her miles and its few pieces of duct tape that
hold this and that together it will someday stop and drop. Till then, “drive ‘er
till she drops” tour will roll into Michigan as it rolls over 500,000 miles this
weekend. Thank you Chevy employee for the great quality touring vehicle. Thank
