Promise You Anything
Written by: Steve Earle (WB Music Corp./Duke of Earle Music) ASCAP
Maria McKee (Little Diva Music) BMI
Patrick Suggs (Sugg Songs)

No curtains on the window
Outside a sun a' sinkin' slow
If I feel like lettin' go
I will promise you anything

Wind whispers in your ear
I'll tell you what you wanna hear
If you'll only let me near
I will promise you anything

I don't have to prove my intentions are golden
I don't have to tell you where we're goin'
Feel somethin' wild, baby, out there blowin'
And, if you'll follow me

Run with me if you dare
Hold on, I'm gonna take you there
As solemn as a prayer
I will promise you anything

No curtains on the window
Outside a moon a' hangin' low
I feel like lettin' go
I will promise you anything

Is It Enough (I Luuuv You)
Written by: Stacey Earle (TEN TEN) SESAC
                  Mark Stuart (BUOY Pub.) SESAC

I know about those things you want
I know there are some things that you need
I know between the two you'll manage
'Cause you know how to make do
But, Is it enough I love you

I won't make promises I can't keep
I'll only fill your head with sweet dreams
They were made just for you
A little somethin' you can hold on to

I have no gold for you
But, right now will my silver do
My silver wears so thin and fine
But, my love will last a lifetime

I talk big when I talk of someday
I hope to live every word I say
But, right now I hope it's enough
'Cause all I have to give you is my love

Did I Say "I'm Sorry"
Written by: Stacey Earle (BUOY Pub.) SESAC

Did I say, "I'm sorry"
Did I say, "I'm sorry"
Oh, did I say, "I'm sorry"
Well, I'm…

See, sometimes I forget
I say things I regret
Getting harder to admit
I just don't know when to quit

I get all caught up in the night
Nothin' seems to be going right
Why, look who's standing there
Why, this could be perty fair and square

Oh, I'm, Oh, I'm, Oh, I'm…

I find words so easily
But, only those that look good on me
Where would I start, or, even begin
Guess I'll open my heart and reach deep in

Oh, did I say, "I'm sorry"
Did I say, "I'm sorry"
Oh did I say, "I'm sorry"
Well I'm

Makes Me Happy
Written by: Stacey Earle (BUOY Pub.) SESAC

It's that every now and then
That one given moment
You say "please, don't let it end
It's mine and I own it"

Leaves my heart beating fast
And, then, it all seems clear
If I happen to ask
"Oh God, what am I doing here?"

I'll say that it makes me happy
Oh, isn't that all that matters anyway
As long as you can hear me laughing
You know I have lived for one day

Don't you forget it
That's not why I'm in it
No, that's not what that is for
It's worth a whole lot more

I can close my eyes, make it all go away
Open them up when I'm ready to stay
Keep those things there close in sight
Especially those things I really like

Day might just run for cover
As the darkness rolls in with it's thunder
But, I'll be all right as long as I can
Simply walk over and turn on a light

No New Shoes
Written by: Stacey Earle (BUOY Pub.) SESAC

No new shoes today
She wears the same ones as yesterday
And the day before
Her red dress zipped up half her back
Any further might leave the track
As silver threads of Rik n' Rak spun around the floor

If she'd squint her eyes a' tight enough
Quicksilver turned to diamonds in the rough
Spreading out the fairy dust
Through the kitchen, down the hall
Build a mansion with them great big tall walls
Dressed up like a Baby Doll, it's tea for two

And it was all that
She didn't know
Not what she didn't have
All could only leave her
Room to grow
If only she knew what she had

A little late for sweet sixteen, at least she
Made it to the ball, and as she bowed before the queen
Queen said "Gearle, have a sit, but
Wear the shoe only if it fits"
Then, laughed at her own quick wit
She was over thrown and frostbit'
Standing there with a hole in her soul
She left, bare to the bone
I guess her feet grew cold

Running out of time
Why, she ran like mad
She ran, she ran
For more than she had
Running harder, trying to leave it all behind her
She ran so far, so nothing could find her
Running till she ran right out of herself
Oh, she ran right into somebody else

Good-by
Written by: Stacey Earle (TEN TEN) SESAC

When you left me last summer
You took everything
When you came back to me
You asked me everything about everything

You asked me if
There was somebody new
How could there be
My heart was with you

When you said, "good-by
I'm leaving you
Oh, good-by, I'm leaving you
Oh, yes, good-by, I'm leaving you, good-by"

So, why did you come back
Was it for the rest of me
I already told you
You would always get the best of me, there's nothin' left of me

Didn't leave me nothin'
I could use
Well, maybe the last words
I heard from you

Ain't nothin' gonna
Change my mind
I'm leaving your heart
But, takin' mine

Now, that's somethin'
I can use
Take my heart
Find someone new

I'm taking my heart now
And, let it slowly heal
Right now, my heart
Just don't know how to feel

But give it a little time
Someone to treat it kind
It needs to build some trust
My heart's been through so much

It just said, "good-by"
Oh, it just said, "good-by"
Oh, good-by
I'm leaving you, good-by"

Kiss Her Goodnight
Written by: Stacey Earle (BUOY Pub.) SESAC

Everything that you hold
Turning worth its weight in gold
Unfold your hand
Through your fingers slips out sand

Bits and pieces of broken hearts
One here and there the spare parts
Grab 'er your gonna need her
That baby, she's a keeper

She'll keep you warm at night
So, be sure and kiss her goodnight

Nothing else you'll ever need
Nothing quite like her, why, your life's complete
Oh, what a find
This baby's one of a kind

And this kind don't just come along
You're easy to find, never stay long
There'll never be another
Take'er, but you gotta love her

And she'll love life
So, reach over and kiss her goodnight
MMMMMMM, Goodnight

Keep her near, keep her close
Why, others want her they just don't know
Oh, what they've been missin'
Guess they would not listen

Now burning ears are burning hot
Yearning years, sure missed a lot
Now they hear her whisper
Oh, how surely they miss her
They miss her alright
They miss kissing her goodnight

What A Wonderful Life
Written by: Stacey Earle (TEN TEN/BUOY Pub.) SESAC

Little baby please don't cry
How can I help you
If I don't know why
We have so much to learn

First words you're a daddy's boy
Your mama knows
You're just making noise
I'm here to sing your lullabies

First step, we all fall down
Around the room
We go spinning around
Running fast, jump real high
Oh what a wonderful life

First day you seem so scared
First grade so many there
And, as she reached out
She took your hand

She took you places far away
Adding up all your days
Oh, my, how the years
Just flew on by

Everything now seems real cool
Walking in line with every rule
Making friends
And they seem real nice

We all gather on this day
We watch our children graduate
I sit and watch
The tears go by

I need to buy a special gift
Somethin' that he'll call "his"
Somethin' that will say
How much I love, I love you, I love you

Here's a baby and she'll move real fast
An oil change should make her last
She'll take you far
If you treat her right

Must Be Love
Written by: Stacey Earle (BUOY Pub.) SESAC
George Ducas (Polygram Int'l Pub.) ASCAP

Never stood a chance
Never saw it comin'
But, the best kind of lovin'
Just comes all of a sudden
I caught that bug
Before I knew what it was

It was Boom! Boom!
Out went my lights
I was a' stumblin' around
Into the night
It was hopeless
I'm helplessly in love

Oh, honey it must be love
You know it must be love
Comes from the heavens above
Oh, baby it must be love
You know it must be love
It's hopeless, I'm helplessly in love

Might be miles away
Around the next corner
Nothing to stop you
Nothing to warn you
Wouldn't matter anyway
If there was

You can run as far
As fast as you can
Stop them bullets
Like Superman
But, it's hopeless
Your helplessly in love

It will change your ways
It will break down walls
It's a change of heart
That makes you fall
And, once you're down
There ain't no gettin' up

When it's good love
Sweet love
Real love
Well, that's true love
It's hopeless
I'm helplessly in love

Dancin' With Them That Brung Me
Written by: Stacey Earle (TEN TEN/BUOY Pub.) SESAC
                  Denise Draper (TEN TEN) BMI

I believe in dancin' with them that brung me
That heart that won me
He brang me these flowers I wear
He said to me, "Gearle, come along
They're playing our song
You'll be the loveliest there"

I don't know, everyone there sure is pretty
And, from the city
They look like they've done this before
I'm sure glad you're with me
I'm gettin' dizzy
Just watchin' them spin around the floor

He's such a fine gentleman
He's a simple man
I know he truly cares
He held me close, he held me tight
Like I was the only one there
He took me into the night

Felt like dancin' on air
Oh, I believe
We left the dance laughin' at each other
And all them others
How Daddy left on the porch light
He walks me to the door
Holdin' hands, and, he then
Gently kissed me goodnight

Why
Written by: Stacey Earle (BUOY Pub.) SESAC

One shinin' bright
The other hung the moon
Just like night and day
One must leave the room
Oh why, tell me why

First, second, third
Sounds just like a lover
Home went way out left field
Left his base uncovered
Oh why, tell me why

Newton found his theory
Lyin' underneath a tree
But, long before that
Ly Mr. Adam, Ms. Eve
Oh, why

Why, Why, Why
Why you wanna make me cry
Why, you wanna make me do those things I do
Makin' a fool of myself over you
Oh why, tell me why

I wasn't born yesterday
I know where I was the day before
Sittin' on a plane
I was knocking at her door
And why, I'll tell you why

I was there for only what was mine
And that's sixteen years of my precious time
And, that there, I don't take too lightly
Come on home, Darlin', let's go quietly

How I Ran
Written by Stacey Earle (TEN TEN/BUOY Pub.) SESAC

I don’t worry about you anymore
I don't run and lock my door
Hold my breath and sit real still
Hoping, praying only you will

Go away, don't turn the knob
Only makes me feel like I'm not
Doing everything I can
And, I guess that's why I ran

So, we don't talk much anymore
Sometimes less only means that much more
Use to be I'd say the first thing to come along
But, then again anything I'd say, I'd say wrong

Nothin' mean meant by anything I say
Sure am sorry if I ever made it sound that way
I do only the best I can
And, I guess that's why I ran

You say I don't listen to you anymore
You say you feel like you are ignored
You say so much sometimes, it's more than I can understand
You said I couldn't, so I said "Oh, yes I can!"

But, if I fall, will you pick me up
Dust off my knees and give me a little nudge
And, if I ever need you again you just say
"You know where I am" I ran!

At least we don't argue anymore
Well, is that why they call that thing, there, "love and war"
'Cause in the end nobody won
Just threw up our hands and said, "well, guess we're done"

Hey, would you go back if you could
No, I don't think so, things are looking perty good
We're too old, we would not stand a chance
Besides, we've got big plans, and with that I ran

I ran, how I ran
I ran as fast
Oh, as a Gearle can
I ran, how I ran
